Everything You Should Know About the ARE® 5.0 Exam
The Architecture -Registration Examination is a multi-division exam used to gauge your competency within architecture. There are six division exams you will need to pass before becoming a registered architect.

Prerequisites
NCARB has several requirements for exam applicants. Because states’ requirements all vary, we suggest checking with your state board.

Exam Fees
You'll need to pay a fee for each ARE division in addition to the cost of your NCARB Record. Find the latest fees on NCARB’s Fees page here.

Exam Day
ARE exams vary in time length and number of questions and are made up of multiple-choice questions, check-all-that-apply, quantitative-fill-in-the-blank, hotspot, and drag-and-lace item types. On the day of the exam, you will need to present an acceptable form of identification and participate in a security screening before your exam begins.

After the Exam
Results for all divisions of the ARE exam are typically processed within one week of your test date and sent via email.
