Why Take The FE Exam During College?
The FE exam is intended to test your knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering in your chosen discipline. It is also frequently called the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam. Once you pass, you will officially be an EIT until you pass your Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam.
As an engineer, you will make decisions that directly affect the safety of the public, so all jurisdictions require that the person responsible for performing the engineering work is qualified to do so. Being licensed can help you advance in your career while demonstrating your expertise as an engineer.
Because the FE exam covers material you would have likely learned in college, it is recommended to take it in the last year of your undergraduate engineering program or as soon as possible after obtaining your undergraduate degree. FE certification doesn’t expire for eight years, so even if you’re not sure when you may want to apply for the PE, it is a good idea to take the FE exam while the information is fresh in your mind.
The exam is open to anyone with a degree in engineering or a student currently enrolled in their final year of an EAC/ABET-accredited engineering program
