What was announced?
NCEES changed the PE Civil exam specs effective April 2024.
What’s not changing?
- Format: The exam is still 80 Questions, 9 hours long, and offered year-round as a computer-based test (CBT).
- Requirements: You still need a degree in engineering and 4+ years of relevant professional work experience.
- Core Depth Topics: Although there may be a few slight changes in terminology (see below), the core depth topics will remain the same in the new format.
What is changing?
- Breadth Questions: As of April 1st, all breadth questions will be removed and all questions will be focused on single depth topics.
- Topic & Subtopic Terminology: Some terminology will be updated to better reflect the current language of the industry.
- New Subtopic (water & transportation only): Two disciplines will each receive one new sub-topic.
