Why should I take the FE exam?
Taking the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is a vital step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), a credential that significantly boosts an engineer's career. Passing the FE exam is a prerequisite for taking the final PE exam, and earning the PE license is essential for engineers who want to work on public projects or legally "stamp and seal" engineering documents. Beyond this, passing the FE exam earns you the title of Engineer in Training (EIT), which shows employers your commitment to professional development and makes you a more attractive job candidate, often leading to better job opportunities and a higher salary. It's best to take the exam while you're still in school, as the material will be
fresh in your mind, making it easier to pass and accelerate your career path.
Who should take the PE exam?
Engineers who have a minimum of four years of post-college
work experience in their field and have already passed the FE exam should take
the PE exam. The PE exam is designed for those who want to advance their
careers, take on more responsibility, and gain the legal authority to sign and
seal engineering documents, which is a requirement for many projects.
Why should I take the PE exam?
Taking the PE exam is a significant step toward career advancement, increased earning potential, and job security. A PE license demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and competence, giving you the credibility and authority to take on leadership roles, work as a consultant, or even start your own firm. It also gives you a competitive advantage in the job market and opens up new opportunities.

Why did the PE Civil exam change?
NCEES changed the exam to reflect on engineers’ professional expertise. You will be asked questions centered around what you know within your specific discipline instead of asking you questions about general civil engineering that may not apply within your profession.
