Everything you should know about the California Civil Surveying Exam
There are two specific exams civil engineers are required to
take and pass in order to become licensed in California: surveying and seismic.
The CA Civil Surveying exam tests for minimum competency within civil
engineering in the state of California.

Prerequisites
Before you are allowed to take the California Civil exams,
you will need to have passed your FE exam and PE Civil exam as well as met the
qualifying experience requirements. You will submit your application for
licensure to the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists , and when
your application is deemed exam eligible, you will receive more information
about scheduling your exam.

Exam Fees
The fees for the California Civil Surveying exam are broken
down into two parts: a fee to the California Board and a separate fee to the
testing vendor.
For each exam, you must pay a $175 fee directly to
the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists
(BPELSG) as part of your licensure application. Additionally, you will pay a
separate, though often smaller, fee to the testing center, Prometric, to
schedule your appointment.
Find more information about fees on the Board for
Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists Fee Schedule page here.

Exam Day
The California Civil Surveying exam is a multiple-choice,
computer-based test (CBT) that is 2.5 hours long. This exam is open-book, which
means you are allowed to bring bound reference materials with you.

After the Exam
The Board will post the release date of the exam results on their website.
Once the exam results are finalized, you will receive your exam results in an email.
